“Thanks to She Forward, I can study again after four years. Their support gives me hope and the confidence to pursue my goals and believe in a brighter future.”

Who we are

Founded by Mariam Ghafoori, an Afghan refugee woman in the Netherlands, She Forward paves the way to education for girls and women in Afghanistan, empowering them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to shape their futures. Under Taliban rule, women have been erased from public life—banned from education, work, and nearly all aspects of public life. Stripped of their basic rights, they face isolation and forced dependence. She Forward offers educational opportunities that help them reclaim their future and contribute meaningfully to Afghan society.

Our Vision

We envision a prosperous, equal, and just Afghanistan, where women and young girls are part of society and able to contribute and reach their full potential.

Our Mission

We provide Afghan girls aged 13 and above with access to education through a combination of online and in-person teaching helping to close the education gap and empower them to reach their full potential despite the barriers and the unprecedented restrictions imposed on them by the Taliban. Our approach is exclusively designed to the unique cultural and societal needs of young Afghan girls and women.

Empower one girl, change a community.

Make a lasting impact!

A struggle for rights and education

2.5 million girls have been deliberately denied access to secondary education since 2021.

Afghanistan is the only country in the world to prohibit access to education for girls over the age of 12 (UNICEF, UN Women).

28% of girls are in child marriages in Afghanistan (UNICEF, Human Rights Watch).

Laws requiring a male guardian for travel and participation in public life strip women of their freedom of movement and basic social rights (Amnesty International).

30% of girls in Afghanistan have never received primary education, also not basic religious education.

The surge in gender-based violence and limited access to healthcare, especially reproductive care, has exposed women to severe physical and psychological distress (Human Rights Watch, WHO, UNAMA).

Why support us?

Every girl deserves to learn and grow. Here’s how your support makes it possible for Afghan girls.

  • Your support through donating, volunteering, or raising awareness about our mission helps us provide Afghan girls with access to education, despite Taliban restrictions.
  • Every €50 donated helps educate a girl by providing learning resources, digital tools, and trained teachers.
  • Empowering a girl creates a ripple effect an educated and confident girl uplifts not only herself, but also her family and entire community.
  • Our leadership team, rooted in Afghanistan, understands the lived realities of Afghan society and designs programs that fits Afghan society and are both practical and effective.
  • We use encrypted tools to protect privacy and rely on our trusted local networks for safety and cultural fit.

“The flourishing of talents depend on education. Education helps the physical and spiritual growth of individuals to meet their personal, social, and economic needs. I am grateful to supporters of She Forward, who have provided the opportunity for education to the struggling girls of Afghanistan. I hope this support continues, and more girls can access this program. With hope for the opening of doors to knowledge for Afghan girls!’’
